Hello guys and gals.

Just ordered my Analysis of Changes and Handbook from NFPA. Here is a list of changes that my continuing education classes brought up. Just curious if you guys know of anymore changes for residential not on my list and what your opinion on the changes are.

Archfaults basically in all circuits that are not GFI protected. Thats not the exact wording just generally worded.

All 15 and 20 amp outlets in garages unfinished areas need to be GFCI. Including door openers, pumps and central vac excluding alarm circuits.

Places like decks above grade are required to have GFCI.

Childproof receptacle covers.

A terminal block near the service for other utilities to hook ground to.

Thanks for the replies.

That would only apply to 15 and 20 amp, 120 volt receptacles, not "All 15 and 20 amp outlets".

I hope NJ continues using good judgement and deletes these ridiculous requirements..(ducks behind the wall)

I am not here to judge. But I would like to know how one distinguishes which rules are ridiculous and which are not.

Here are the personal rantings/opinions of a madman:
1) Terminal block..not our problem let them drive rods like we do.
2) Childproof..Homeowners personal problem
3) Decks ..Agreed
4) Deleting single outlets ..Agreed, but Stupid without a sump pump exception
5) AFCI everywhere..In the old houses if you repair something..around here in NJ?? Never work. In new construction absolutley.

One that may not apply as much with the new AFCI expansion is the new rule that will require a common disconnect for all ungrounded conductors of a multiwire branch circuit.
