Replacing a 200 amp service on a pole that was torn down by a storm. The panel feeds 6 - bulk tobacco barns and 1 - small equipment shed. Is the intersystem bonding connector required? There will be no communication or catv equipment.

250.94 Excep: 830.100(B)(2) Evidently the 'structure' that was blown over is considered existing at that time and had no IBT. I would go with the Exception...not required accordingly.

If there is no communications how does anything in chapter 8 come into play here? The exception is based on conditions of items allowed by chapter 8.

Exactly...The 250.94 exception is predicated on communication being non-existing. 830.100(B)(2) is one of five IBT areas given as for a communication reference only.

In existing buildings or structures where any of the intersystem bonding and grounding electrode conductors required by770.100(B)(2), 800.100(B)(2), 810.21(F)(2), 820.100(B)(2), and 830.100(B)(2) exist, installation of the intersystem bonding termination is not required.

Note it says where intersystem bonding and grounding electrode conductors "required by ....... exist".

Without even reading the mentioned sections, if there is no communications at the location those items likely do not exist and would disqualify the use of the exception.

I would agree, and the cost of adding is negligible and perhaps some type off temperature or other monitoring or communication of the tobacco product could be added if needed

Now you just have to get the communications installers to use this IBT. Many of them around here still run their bond wires to water pipes, electric enclosures or raceways, or simply drive their own ground rod and bond to nothing else.
