Mike,
Sure you can use that material as can anyone else who wishes to.

I would suggest that any serious student of the NEC should start his or her own collection of the the ROPs and ROCs. The last two sets are online here. They are also available free in paper copies when they are published, and the last few code cycles they have been on CDs too. I like the hard copies for research like I did for this thread, but the electronic copies are nice too, because you can cut and paste.

When I got in the industry, my father-inlaw was the Chief Electrical Inspector. Each code cycle he would give me the ROPs and ROCs. I looked at them and laughed at people who would read these "Phone book" type of books, then I would throw them away. I now wish I had them.

At a Mike Holt seminar, he had all kinds of old books and ROPs/ROCs. He lets us all take what we wanted. I got a couple of cycles, but not as many I would now like - talk about change of habits.

Brian McPartland has copies that go way back, and he uses them constantly.
BTW -Brian is now a Chief Electrical Inspector for the NYBFUs.

Don
Is there any way that we could get our hands on some of the older ROPs?

You would have to check with the NFPA. I don't know if they have extras from past code cycles. It would be great if they could put the old ones online or on a CD. My set goes back to the 84 code.

Hats off to Don for such a great post. Wow!

Does anybody else picture Don in a bunker, poring over ROP's/ROC's that are locked in a safe and guarded by dogs when he's absent? Or is that just me? :D

Great Post??? Totally awsome more is like it. I wish I had the time and patience to post like that.

Bunker??? Top Secret Underground Bunker that rivals NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain. Probably got a self destruct Nuke and everything. 8)

Thanks Don for a great job. I don't know about anyone else but I can't find time to read anywhere near all the posts on this forum, let alone find time to do that type of research.

Thank you Don for a great job!
