I have to series run numerous coach lights of course the center is on a stud any way to put two 14-2 romex in a pancake without violating 314.16
tricks anyone TIA

Drill the stud for a 4" octagon. It won't hurt the stud.

I concur. Use a 4" or 4-1/4" holesaw and break the piece of wood out with a pair of channel-type pliers. If it's stubborn, split the piece vertically with a chisel.

How about using one of these and leave the lumber in place. :cool:

I seem to recollect that fixture canopies were allowed to be added to the box fill calcs.

Not in my home, I have a 1925, there is no overkill. :grin:


But even if I had a brand new home that had overkill lumber I would rather a tradesmen find a better way then notching out my lumber. And if I am paying the bill I am the AHJ. :D

:grin: Better keep an eye on the plumber, if you think a 1 1/2 deep notch is going to worry you... ;) :grin:

Bob, I feel sure that you would make sure the framing was laid out to allow proper mounting of boxes.:)
