Allen, the picture I posted was from Burndy but any of the compression connector manufactures should have them. Call your supply house and tell them you are looking for a C-Tap rated for #4 solid (tap and run) and they should be able to find one. You might try Graybar or Grainger since there computer systems will show if any branches have them. The Graninger part number is 3LM32.
I think cadweld is even making these type of products now. Its easy to see why if you have ever had two much moisture in your cad weld when its been fired off. Its amazing how many people don't know how dangerous a cadweld can be if its done wrong! There is a lot of risk out there for a electrical contractor.
Sam, these are listed "irreversible" compression connectors so they should meet the requirements of 250.64(C).
Allen, Grainger also hase a mechanical tool(3LT16) including the dies for thes connectors if you don't have a tool. I'm sure you could get better prices than Grainger but probably not get the items as fast. This is going to be a pretty expensive splice if you have to buy a compression tool.
This is all in acordance with a local ruling no more uffer a #4 from the footer to the meter. We just started a new sub division and we bid and planned back to backs but the poco wont swing to us.
