I don't understand why
this UL listed EV charger
can be specd using a 50 amp receptacle
which allows 42 amp flow and
only be required to be protected
by 40 amp fuse
Am I image.jpgmy missing something?

At least the 50 amp receptacle is OK. Where does it say that the load is 42 amps?
 
Assuming the wiring is rated for 40A, I don't see any code violations here.

The max amps you'll probably see from this charger is 32. Why they're spec'ing a 50A receptacle instead of a 40A, I have no idea. But it is legal.
