Adult Obstructed Reach Requirements

For a forward reach over an obstacle such as a shelf the requirement is 48 inches maximum above the floor for obstacles 20 inches or less in depth, and 44 inches maximum for obstacles 20 to 25 inches deep. For obstructed side reaches, such as over a table or file cabinet, receptacle minimum height is above the obstacle, which is limited to 34 inches high. The maximum receptacle height is 48 inches for obstacles less than 10 inches wide, and 46 inches for obstacles 10 to 24 inches wide.

That didn't answer the OP! It doesn't say whether the measurements are to the bottom, center, or top!:happyno:

From the 2010 ADA Standards For Accessible Design, Section
308 Reach Ranges.....15 inches is the lowest height and 48
inches is the highest height above the finished floor surfaces
that is required for Accessibility [ for adults ]......If you
install a receptacle at 18 inches A.F.F., then it doesn't really
matter about the top, center or bottom measurement, ...the
receptacle would be within the 15" - 48" allowable reach
range.......If you install a receptacle at the 48 inch height
A.F.F., then the top of the receptacle would be no higher
than the 48 inches A.F.F.

under ADA rules... what is the receptacle height?

18", and is that to center, top, or bottom of outlet?

Here in CA:

For receptacles it's, no lower that 15" AFF measured to the bottom of the box.
For switches it's, no higher than 48" AFF measured to the top of the box.

So with the receptacle height it's very important that you know the floor finish. You rough them in at the required height and they tile the floor you'll be to low.

screw it. i'm putting all devices at 33 5/16" above FF to center of box.
receptacles, lights, everything at doorknob height....

if you can't find the doorknob, you'll never need to get to any of the other stuff at all, right?
the doorknob can become a "fit check" to see if you are qualified to use the building.

i'm feeling a bit snarky this morning.... 3,000 Sw Ft office, probably less than ten
people work there..... sixty two 3/4" data conduits and thirty eight 3/4" home runs
in the slab....

the part that is snarky is that all the branch circuits are gonna have to go in the slab
as well... there is so much timber in the walls that turning corners is unproductive.
corners of the building have 6x8 timber. windows and doors have 4x6 timber....
