accesible floor

working in a school and one of the classrooms has a 6 inch raise floor that is accessible. Is it legal to run mc underneath the floor to feed THE floorboxes and etc.

I agree, unless the underfloor space is used for air supply. See 300.22(B). Then your MC cable may have to meet the requirements listed.

Steve I think it would be all set under the provisions of 300.22(C)Other Space Used for Environmental Air.

No different than above a suspended ceiling.

You are probably right, Bob, 300.22(C) would most likely apply. It has similar restrictions on MC cable, but not as many.

Since he did say it is in a classroom, the space probably isn't used for air handling.

so your saying mc can be used, it better off having a steel jacket then rather than an aluminum jacket. right?

Unless the classroom in question is a computer or technology lab (most likely in a college setting) in which case it very well could be used for air handling. Though 6" seems a bit shallow for a computer floor.

I think any MC cable is probably OK if the space is not used for air handling (i.e. it doesn't have vent panels in the floor and there isn't an air conditioner feeding the space under the floor.)

If the space is used for air handling, you will want to read the code sections mentioned.

Steve, 300.22(C)(1) specifically allows any MC without an overall nonmetallic covering to be used in this Other Air Handling Space

Yes, but if it is an air handling space, I still think he should read (B) and (C) and decide which applies. If (B) applies, there is another requirement for the MC jacket.

I know its unlikely, but it is possible that the primary reason for the raised floor is as an air handling duct.
