I have a habit of ALWAYS testing for power, even after the meter is pulled.

Today, that habit paid off.

I have seen this meter can a hundred times but this one had test blocks built in.

I didn't see them at first, I just noticed that there was bus behind the meter jaws connecting line and load. Each leg had a brown insulated thing sticking out under the top jaws and when the meter was pushed it, it disconnected the bus jumpers.

Looks like a lovely place to work. A Zinsco panel on the left and a FPE on the right.
Is doesn't get much better than that.:D

Hey great catch on that one, that could have been a real bad day for you if you had not taken a minute to check, thanks for the heads up!

Great habit!

Double check everything. Equipment fails.

Don't trust the self shorting equipment to work. Some meters with the CT self-shorting devices may have a failure due to dirt, bugs, corrosion, etc and the CT secondary will be left open.
