Any good education on flat rate pricing out there? I'm sick of spinning my wheels with t&m. Ellen Rohr has opened my eyes. Seems like she wrote "Where did the money go?" for me.

well, you are in the right place.... there is a fellow on here who does a flat rate system, and it seems
pretty spiffy. you subscribe to it, it's a monthly fee. i was all in for it, but my work is weird enough
that i don't know if it'd be a good fit, or i'm weird enough.. one or the other.

i have a couple of ongoing commercial accounts i do T&M on, but you couldn't bid it, and they
trust me not to cheat them.

everything else is flat rate... how much do i want to walk away with in my pocket when this is done?

do ellen's "weekend biz plan". this weekend would be a good one. first comes the biz plan.
you aim before you pull the trigger.

then check out jim brush on here, and talk to him.

flat rate the small stuff-

flat rate the small stuff-

I have noticed that when dealing with "frugal" customers.. If I qoute $50/hr And it may take upto 4-hrs +parts , they start mentally adding it up in their head and the numbers get to big to count and a "far-far-far away look" emerges in their eyes, and I usually don't get the job.......... HOWEVER
IF I say " I it will only be $250 " they usually repley "well, that's, not to bad" .

It also helps to give them a shopping list cost for extras , and If you bundle them together NOW , you get a discount. of $XX,xx

How do you guys tackle troubleshooting with flat rate?

half day increments.

unless you are faster than a speeding bullet, you can handle two calls a day. a morning one,
and an afternoon one. travel time, running off to fetch a magic part that isn't on the truck... etc.

so each one is a half day of your life.

what's your selling price? mine's cheap, i have low overhead... $135 an hour.
most folks i've talked with on here are $175 per hour and up on their flat rate number.

so a service call is gonna be $500 plus the parts and whatnot. now, you may have to
wrap in in a bow and serve it with an attractive presentation, but that's how it works.

ask any plumber.
