The NEC has address AIC, in 110.9 and SCCR, in 110.10, for some 40 years now. The biggest push came with series ratings in the late 80s. How many other NEC sections have your contractors and inspectors been ignoring?
Lots, and thats the thing: many things that IMO are more important to safety. Last big project I did, had to supply the plan reviewer with all the gear AIC info, AFC, and series ratings, then the field inspector looks at it all over again, wants me to show him the series ratings in the siemens manual......IMO he should have spent the limited time he had looking at more of the "nuts and bolts" of the job. Then next inspection visit was a different inspector (job was too big for one inspection) and here we go with the AIC for the third time........

Well in a lot of cases companies talk safety, safety, safety, but it's just a dog and pony show. They are just playing CYA legally games. You watch a couple videos and sign off that you watched them. You spend 2 days in an arc flash training class that was was meant for management, not one piece of arc flash PPE in the room. It was crazy, I was in there with 50 other guys that I work with, and I asked most of them "Did you learn anything useful in there?" Nobody felt they did.

Safety is preached until some important piece of equipment goes down, then it goes away. If somebody gets hurt, safety comes back as a shield for the company's liability. And of course if they want to get rid of someone safety comes roaring back to help the company prove that they were terminated with cause
