Well in a lot of cases companies talk safety, safety, safety, but it's just a dog and pony show. They are just playing CYA legally games. You watch a couple videos and sign off that you watched them. You spend 2 days in an arc flash training class that was was meant for management, not one piece of arc flash PPE in the room. It was crazy, I was in there with 50 other guys that I work with, and I asked most of them "Did you learn anything useful in there?" Nobody felt they did.
Safety is preached until some important piece of equipment goes down, then it goes away. If somebody gets hurt, safety comes back as a shield for the company's liability. And of course if they want to get rid of someone safety comes roaring back to help the company prove that they were terminated with cause
