I've heard stories that when AFCIs first came out, P&S actually made a batch of AFCI receps for testing purposes, Then the Code changed from 'receptacles' to 'outlets', and they abandoned the R&D.
Of course, even if you could get hold of one, they wouldn't be usable today because they're not combo style.
At the IAEI code changes class that I was at a UL rep said that one product is a few months from getting a listing and a second product has started the listing process.
Just a reminder that UL is not about to list anything that depends on a patent to operate.
OK, maybe I phrased that poorly; but I do know that UL refused to consider a standard for testing AFCI's until after the patent(s) were released to the public domain.
This is fairly common at UL - someone wants a 'standard' written that only their product can meet. UL won't play that game.
