If there were a device that you could install at the first outlet in a circuit, and that would AFCI-protect the downstream outlets (like you can do now with GFCI receptacles), you could put it the hallway, and protect the bedroom outlets downstream. If it is not within 6 feet of the panel, then you would need to put the conductors from the panel to this first outlet in metal raceway, or use a cable with a metallic sheath.
