Would a receptacle installed in the toilet room (off the lighting circuit)
be required to be GFCI protected? This is a separate room with a door, containing only a toilet.

In my opinion, NO. It does not meet the definition of a bathroom

Thats is somewhat a literal intrerpretation. If that "toilet room" is part of a bathroom, it might be more open for discussion.

I think I agree with you Augie47, You'll need a basin to have a bathroom. But I can't be held accountable, I haven't opened the book yet.

If the "toilet room" is only accessible from the main bath "area" then I would say it needs GFCI protection.

How much is the cost of a GFI compared to having to come back and install one after getting red-tagged for it?

Besides, the NEC is a minimum, not a mandate. Why not just put one in and sleep well tonight?

Are you guys gonna make me look this up? Cause I hate having to do that.

And this is CMP 2 stuff.

I have seen "toilet" rooms in several of our custom homes. It was a seperate room inside the bathroom the AHJ in our area ruled it as part of the bathroom like a closet is part of the bedroom.

The definition of a "bathroom"--An area including a basin with one or more of the following: a toilet, a tub, or a shower.

You people are totally killing me.:grin::grin:

Don't forget to tip your waitress.

I could see different inspectors looking at this different, but IMHO it is not a bathroom and it does not need to be GFCI protected. Would I GFCI protect it? Absolutely, it is not worth reinspection fees. :D
