Rather stupid idea if you think about someone in the shower and a kid turns it off.

Now we all know that kids don't turn off the lights when they should. So I guess that in this case they would be turning them off when they shouldn't. I think this would confuse the kids too much.

LED nightlights are cheap and some even act as emergency lights/flashlights. Auto matic turn on if power goes out. We bought several and they were like $4 each

I was joking. Of course I know of tools that are capable of smaller measurements. I just have never used them.

I know I'm coming in late here, but I thought it was worth mentioning... here in Rhode Island, inspectors do not allow switches within arm's length of a shower/tub unless it's GFCI protected.

Boy, ain't that the truth. Having spent some time in the 230/240v parts of the world I can tell you that switches outside the bathroom are the norm.... and everything about it sucks... except the staying alive part... I'm fond of that part :grin:

An inspector has no right to make up the rules as he sees fit even if it results in a "safer" installation. You're making a huge jump in your argument between an optional design choice made by the installer to an inspector overstepping his authority and imposing a requirement without a written law or amendment.

Amen brother....I get sick of this crap myself from our surrounding counties then they come into DC and say so and so from yadie yadie county said we had to do this....well I say it is not required per NEC and what are their local amendments......uh nope not there either it is what they want to see. That needs to stop somewhere. Beat a dead carcass I guess.

Nobody suggested making non-required GFCI protection illegal. But, enforcing non-existent rules is plain wrong.

yeh, but that makes it too easy to miss the gremlin that was perched on the tub waiting for you. and now that you're in with the door closed, you've got no chance of escaping.
