That sounds a bit outlandish, Larry. I hear they're very complicated and not very cost effective.
Will I be vindicated if I mention LED night-light bulbs?

It only matters at night, though. I prefer to walk in, close the door, and then turn on the light. That way, the light does not disturb anyone else who happens to be sleeping nearby.
Charlie, you are completely disregarding the drunk guy sleeping in the tub :)

Wow I read this thread posted and when I looked back 10 more posts were made...... gees now my last comment is dated!

I know I'm coming in late here, but I thought it was worth mentioning... here in Rhode Island, inspectors do not allow switches within arm's length of a shower/tub unless it's GFCI protected.

An inspector has no right to make up the rules as he sees fit even if it results in a "safer" installation. You're making a huge jump in your argument between an optional design choice made by the installer to an inspector overstepping his authority and imposing a requirement without a written law or amendment.

Nobody suggested making non-required GFCI protection illegal. But, enforcing non-existent rules is plain wrong.

yeh, but that makes it too easy to miss the gremlin that was perched on the tub waiting for you. and now that you're in with the door closed, you've got no chance of escaping.
