Wanted to pick your guys brain on this one. I installed a couple big ass fans (literal brand name) that come with a VFD built onto the fan inside an enclosure, it comes with a L16-20 cord plug 3ph 480. I installed an outlet for the cord end but was stumped with a disconnect requirement, as 430.109 (F) States cord connected motors shall have HP ratings which the L16-20 don’t have to service as disconnect means. But I don’t think 430.109 applies to this as 430.108 “states between point of attachment to the feeder or branch circuit and point of connection to the motor”. The fan is more of an “appliance” or “equipment” so to speak. The wiring between branch to VFD and then motor etc is all internal. So in this installation does anyone think a disconnect would be required (local interpretations aside)? I interpret it as a no.
