Does anyone know if nylon cable ties are permitted for type MC cable?
330.30 does not mention it specifically, but 320.30 says specifically that cable ties are acceptable for type AC cable.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Cable ties for MC cable

IF YOU CAN FIND A BAG OF NYLON CABLE TIES THAT STATES "LISTED FOR USE ON MC CABLE " AS A FASTENING DEVICE,THEN YOU ARE GOOD TO GO.

Re: Cable ties for MC cable

WELL "UNLISTED FOR USE ON MC CABLE" JUST DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE! BUT THE DEF. OF LISTED IN NEC DOES.THE POINT BEING-YOU CAN'T JUST GUESS,IF IT'S IN WRITING ON THE BAG OR BOX,YOU HAVE PROOF,IF A PROBLEM SHOULD ARISE.JUST LIKE I HAVE FOR THIS ONE.

Re: Cable ties for MC cable

Ben, TURN YOUR CAPS OFF.

Now inline with Bobs post (AND IF YOU STICK AROUND YOU WILL INDEED SEE BOB NEVER GUESSES)

Let's start with 90.4,

The authority having jurisdiction for enforcement of of the Code has the responsibility for making interpretations of the rules, for deciding on the approval of equipment and materials, ...

This specifically allows an inspector to approve an installation on his judgement, regardless of the absence of a listing as long as the items in the installation are not specificaly required to be listed in an article.

Now 90.7, Note the second and third words, Specific items, these items are stated in the applicable articles, and relieves the AHJ of having to judge an item safe.

Now, look at this wording
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if the equipment has been listed by a qualified electrical testing laboratory that is recognized as having the facilities described above ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this would also relieve the inspector of this decision if a "non specific item" is listed.

With the exception of the items called for to be listed in the specific articles, there is no mandatory rule that requires all items to be third party tested.

By the way, when I say I do not guess, I only mean I look things up. :)

I do not mean that I "know" the NEC perfectly.

Re: Cable ties for MC cable

Guess what? I am one of those 90.4's and I have approved a bent 16 penny nail over a piece of MC cable as a support. It was my perogotive to approve it. The support does not need to be listed, it needs to be approved. See the definition of both.
