Installing a 18000 BTU window AC unit on a dedicated 20 amp 240v with 12/2 nm-b.

Bought the HOM220CAFIC breaker for this circuit.

Is connecting the CAFI breaker neutral pigtail wire to the panel neutral bonded ground bar make this breaker effective even though there is no neutral wire on the return?

The afci will work without a load side neutral but the neutral from the breaker must be connected to the neutral bar. TGhe neutral is needed for the electronics in the breaker

Yes it will work with no load side neutral.

You do realize that AFCI protection is not required for a 240 volt circuit? (so far anway)
