Can I have defective Raco 1900 boxes?

Well, considering that if you return something to HD they take it and put it right back on the shelf, do you really think they care? Those boxes could have been returned several times before you got them.

I am aware of that. I told a customer one time to bring a defective ceiling fan back one time. I was in store not much later and saw same one in box still with customer's writing on it (indicating which room it was to go in). Someone else gets to accept or return it I guess.

But if they have them at reduced price because they are defective it would be nice to indicate there may be issues with it even if they don't clearly tell what those issues are. Grocery stores do this with items that are either past a sell by date or are getting close to that date, don't take much to figure out that is why they have discounted them.

It's long been said that what you get at Big Box stores isn't always the same item as what you get from other suppliers. Whenever I shop HD I always keep that in mind and pay attention to the packaging, look the item over and know what not to buy from them such as power tools. At a supply house there are employees who know the products and at least try to provide you with a correct, undamaged. first line item. Big Box stores have no such people, you can have someone from garden in charge of electrical.

They have no idea if an item is damaged or defective unless it's obvious like being run over by a truck. When customers return something they always say it's defective just to get their money back. If that fan wouldn't run, for instance, nobody there would be able to determine if that's true or some idiot just didn't know how to connect it.

I know. You sort of taking risk every item you buy. People also damage things themselves then bring them back claiming defective.

I once was on a job some 50+ miles from big box and opened a 3 pack of GFCI receptacles I purchased only to find someone returned the cheap no name brand they sell in a good brand's box. At least was not last trip I needed to make to that job, but still was not happy about that one. They looked somewhat used as well:(
