That is what I would do. The one thing to be careful of is that many/most RMC compression fittings are not raintight. IIRC there are only a couple product lines that are.
Why would it matter? Standard threaded conduit couplings are no where near being raintight. They leak far more than the original EMT couplings that we can no longer use in wet locations.
 
Is RMC even required to be rain-tight when in wet locations?
There is nothing in the NEC that says that as far as I know. If they required that, we would probably have to use tapered thread couplings.

In the 70s the conduit couplings in Canada were tapered threads. I don't think that we ever had tapered thread couplings here in the US.
