A helper and I mounted 3 CFs in 45 minutes flat using the pre-assembled method :)
That was a great "flat rate" money maker :D

Are you sure that's not "3 helpers and I mounted 1 fan in 45 minutes...."

Positive ;)

"The Act" went like this:
Helper opened and began assembeling fans in the room locations
I dropped the 3 existing fixtures
Helper was done w/CF#1 assembly as I was done with last existing fixture.
As I finished CF#1, helper completed CF#2 assembly
As I finished CF#2, helper completed CF#3 assembly
As I finished CF#3, helper was done cleaning up locations 1 & 2.
While I settled up with HO, helper cleaned up location #3.
I "policed" all 3 locations...helper brought out all tools, materials, debris.

Done.
:D

design/no electrical plan

Who installed the ceiling fan boxes? Because I have never been that LUCKY!!!

bob, just about every fan I was sent to install never had structural framing above or a fan box... especially 3 in a row...

All it has to be is independently supported from the box.

There is no requirement for structural framing.

I'm not arguing the fact, just what are the odds?

I was just saying Celtic's one lucky guy, heres what happens when I go to install 3 ceiling fans,
" So do you mind using the pull chain?" Lady replies, "absolutely not I want switches"

Oh and did I mention every room has switched receptacles? :)

That's not difficult. Just have the conversation before you price the job, remove the switch plate to look, and charge for the extra work.

If the hot was fed to the switch, just move the receptacle's leg over; if fed at the receptacle, open that box and rewire so the loop is now a feed.

In either case, I always run a 3-conductor cable to the fan box whether I install one switch, two switches, or a fan/light controller.

I know Larry... but your not going to do it in 45 mins like Celtic got to...

No, but if I can use the existing box and wiring, and have even one experienced helper with me, I can indeed install three fans that fast, and without attaching the blades to the motor first.

If I have Patricia (my better third), who can attach the blades to the brackets as fast as I am ready for them, with me, and we each have an electric screwdriver, we can keep up with his pace.

My only hesitation with Celtic's claim is that (a) the fixture boxes already were fan boxes, (b) the boxes had framing above them and he used lag screws, or (c) he (gasp!) didn't use fan boxes.

Not too long ago, we installed four fans in four upstairs room where there were no ceiling boxes at all. We used a 4" hole saw, fan braces, and looped the boxes from above from an attic supply.

We were in and out in four hours, and that includes bringing the 6' step-ladder and tools in and out, vacuuming and cleaning, and invoicing. How's that?

It's not the blade screws that give me a fit. It's the little suckers that fasten the canopy to the bracket. Try to get them in with a medalion that fits close to the canopy.

AMEN! I hate those things!

N

My whole point... I've never been that lucky to have those happen to me, especially 3 in a row... But then again, they wouldn't hire me if it was easy...

Did anyone consider that he may have pulled down three properly installed Hunter's and put up three shiney new Casablancas?

This was a great money maker as I said....
...the dwelling was a t'house - less than 1 yr. old - the HOs had the foresight to have CF rated boxes installed during rough ;).

How's that for dumb luck?

My shop always installs fan boxes in locations where a HO might want a fan some day. I'm sure many of you do the same.

Perhaps, he was working in a nicely constructed home.

I think the old work bar-hanger boxes take longer to install than the fan boxes which screw to an adjacent joist. In new construction, I like the fan boxes which attach to the bottom the a joist the best. This doesn't always work out, due to positioning.

I like to position bedroom fans at the foot of the bed, or slightly beyond. I don't like fans directly over the bed blowing down on sleeping people.

That's an extra.

Standard pricing is a switched outlet. (Level 1)
Level 2 is a ceiling box
Level 3 is a CF
Level 4 is recessed
Level 5 is up to the imagination :D
