Other than "nipples" (that doesn't make sense assuming they are talking about RMC), I don't disagree. IMO this is one of the most ridiculous things in the electrical world that some of these super common fitting combinations are used and accepted nearly universally but are technically not allowed.
I've been whining about this for years. We've always used the FMC to rigid coupling to EMT connector on transformer transitions because until recently no one made a proper fitting in large sizes. Now the issue of tapered vs. straight threads has made that a problem when there really isn't a problem.
The one thing that I've mentioned several times on this forum is that the hubs on meter enclosures are intended for use only with RMC or IMC yet around here 95% of all residential services have SE connectors threaded into them. Another 3-4% are "illegal" PVC terminal adapters, while the last remaining ~1% are actually the proper RMC or IMC. Been doing them that way for 50 years and still I don't see any problems.
My biggest complaint is that the standards/testing should reflect the actually common use of these products which no one seems to be addressing.
