It depends on the size and manufacturer. Some Sq D and C-H breakers in the 10 through 30 amp range are listed and identified for up to two conductors #14 through #10, Large frame breakers can accept up to four (or more) parallels in the KCMIL ranges.

You know I had an application which the electrician supplied a circuit with two different breakers, and I got a nice little shock. I know that't not the same thing, but other than not being able to connect it to an adjacent load on the same circuit, what's the purpose of this?

What you describe is a true violation of 240.8, and although it could have it's merit in current dividing and increasing the load on a circuit to double with out overloading the conductor, (assuming all is equal to the center of the circuit) the dangers outweigh the benefits. Think double fed ring circuit.

Sounds like someone double fed a circuit and they were on the same phase unknowingly or they knew it and swapped phases on one of the breakers so they didn`t have to find the double feed Sad but true some guys will fix that problem this way and to me it is a life threatining way

I had a service call once where I discovered a dual-fed circuit. I disconnected and capped one of the wires at the panel.

short of tearing the entire place to pieces there is one other thing you could have done and that is to joint them in a panel and make one termination.Does that make them parralleled I don`t think so unless they end up at same place

Allen, why not do what Larry said or simply put both wires on one breaker (if it's identified for two) and save the wire nut?Originally posted by allenwayne:

If the breaker is listed for 2 sure but as far as I know only 2 brands are.If one I just didn`t add that part sorry I should know better with this crew of forumaholics
