My guess is they needed a wedge for something and forgot to take it out. I have had to pry the sides like that to inspect stud locations and such.

Multi-meters? Nonsense. I used my fingers to test voltage, while my apprentice stood by with the 1942 codebook and fingers at the ready.

It was 1942 right? I'd hate to have briefed him on the wrong procedure.

I understand the control wiring for the coil.

But what is control firing? What are you shooting at? :smile:

The contactors are for shutting off the cooking equipment in a kitchen and are tied to this fire supression system.

The contactors in the first set of pictures (installed by others) are fed from the panel on the other side of the wall. The circuits for the oven and stove were intercepted and these contactors added.

I have to add one for the deep fryer which was overlooked by during the kitchen upgrade. When the fire marshall tested the system the deep fryer did not cut out.

your not supposed to make junctions in ansul boxes, I always nipple a 4x4 j-box next to it and pull the leads from the micro-switch into it to make a junction.

I think the reason they don't want you to make connections inside it is because the fire chemical guy often puts a seal tag on the box. Other than that, I can't think of a compelling reason why you can't or shouldn't. I do the same thing as you, though. I typically attach a 4-square with a chase nipple to the Ansul cabinet.
