Yeah, what Marc said. As long as it had the Benfield markings on it, then it gets my vote.

And yes, I think GB is lame too. The wire connectors, the benders, even the jamb switches.

talking about bad pipe i had some 1/2 the other day i needed to twist a 90 just a tad. the pipe split open!. i have never seen that one before

Thats funny we had a bunch of bundles of 1 inch that split and dimpled. I had never seen that before. I though it was me but everyone that picked from that stack had an issue. It seemed that 30 feet or more out of the bundle was defective. Time for a refund?!

Speaking of bad condiut. My partner and I were bending offsets in some 4" GRS he was sitting on the pipe holding one end level so we could get a good 30 degree bend. we had almost got there when the pipe literally broke in two and launched him about 4 feet.

I purchased an Ideal 1/2 bender from Home Depot on Friday so I could practice bending some at home. We use Greenlee on the jobs. The Conduit bending manual I am using says to use the teardrop for 3 point saddle bends. The bender I bought doesn't have a teardrop. How do you guys with Ideal benders do 3 point saddles?

C'mon now.... isn't that sorta like saying using a screwgun over a screwdriver is cheating? :D and for the record I do not own a hoppy bender, but I want one!
They had one of those at the supply house the other week, but they wanted me to get pipe off my truck to try it out. Yeah, right. I'll get right on that. Brother, can you spare a stick of 1/2". :-?

Unfortunately the closest Rack-A-Tiers distributor is an hour north of me so I rarely see their products in person, a lot of thier stuff grabs my attention.....tools are much cheaper than labor.

So, you would not look to innovation, but would rather do it the old way cause it would make you appear more skilled?

Time to throw away my Garmin and buy a sextant.

i mean, i would be much more happier about a job if i used a benfield bender and not one of those hoppy benders that pretty much do all the skilled work for you. i do love rack a tier products i have the black cable racks and the wire python but never used that one yet. i have a laser plumb bob by them too!

What a brutal sales pitch that was... Times must not be as tough as the newspapers say.

That's double funny. I had the same thing happen about a month ago with a bundle of 3/4; the pipe was splitting right down the length. The first time I thought it was bender-operator error, but when it happened twice more it made me pause... High commodity costs = pipes made out of garbage steel?

When that's happened to me in the past, I've looked for the seam first and rotated the pipe so the seam would not be in line with the bend axis, if that makes sense. It works about 50% of the time. I'd rather send that crap back, but sometimes you can work through a little bit of it.
