Other than removing the box and replacing it, is there a code compliant method for covering a hole in a box when a Romax wire has been removed during a remodel and the box supplies a receptacle in another room and will be remaining. Thanks.

Once you remove the cable it does qualify as an unused opening so it is required to be closed. As rc stated I've never seen someone who cared but it's a valid question.

How about a piece of duct tape on each side, one inside and one outside, pressed against each other?

Unless the wall covering is removed, it would be hard to put tape on the outside of the box. And if the wall covering is removed, why not just change the box?
Me, I wouldn't worry about it!

Tell them you plan to "use" it as a bore scope inspection hole to be sure the insulation stays in the wall.
