Just how far can you run 2 inch emt (set screw couplings) with no pull string with 3 90's and not exspect to get killed ?Any fish tapes go to 400 feet ?

For data??? 400 ft??? Are you sure??? Data lines, usually cat5E, hell even cat 6 are not good for over 300ft. Anything over that they usually run fiber optic and link severs together. Seems WAY to long to me from my experience.

its about 350 feet of it 30 feet up where we cant get a lift.Yes i did it but dont ask how many hours.Only a stupid jerk leaves a mess like this

use a vacum or air comp instead

edit: 400' , i would install a couple C condulets
I doubt that you can pull data cables in and out of a C without damaging them.

Jim,
Take a look at the specs for the cable. I have seen a lot of specs from the manufacturer that said no more than 100' between pull points and deduct 30' for each 90.

Actually i was not using it for data ,just borrowing it for tempary service.Looked like easy solution but wasnt.Seems like there should be a rule in nec to cover raceways like this.

Isn't there?? Wait what kind of rule are you wanting????

I think Article 358 covers it.
I can't believe my ears Jim wants a rule added for this. Shocking. How would you phrase the rule " if there is abandon conduit that is to long, to high, and in a really bad spot, thou shall not use it." :)

I was thinking of something along the lines of.....

"All installations shall be installed so as to ease any future installations or modifications of existing from the use of a comfy rolling chair"

TIA/EIA 568-B: A maximum horizontal-run of 100 meters (308ft.), including work station and communication closet patch cords.

and i think the max the actual cat5e cable can be is 296'. You can have an additional 12' in patch cables.

Actually i include phone along with internet as data.In this case it was to the phone equipment. My beef was that installing 350 feet without a pull box or jet line makes a disaster for the next man.Cant very easily suck a line thru 35 set screw couplings unless you tape every one.Would been easy before other tenants moved in.Was lucky i could get a lift in there to fix it.

I've seen documentaries on TV showing that some very long conduit runs were strung using guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, rabbits, or a similar sized animal to run the first pull string into a very long conduit ( at a particle separator, collider, or military site or something like that - I don't remember what it was).

Get yourself a pet!

Actually a small wheeled motor driven battery mouse is what we needed.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, runs like this are pulled every day. If

you can't blow it or vacuum it in, use two fish tapes, SOP.
