We bid a 100kw Liebert UPS and have been asked to trim the bid. Owner asked me if we could loose the 400A 3? disco ahead of it. There are no EE drawings but I figured the disco in as the OCPD is above it on the next floor.

So I'm looking around the 05 NEC and can't find a requirement for a disco within site of a UPS.

What am I missing?

Does the UPS have an integral disconnect?

Man I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. I did this bid months ago and don't have a copy here. I did a half dozen smaller ones a couple years ago but the supply and load panels where right next to them so I didn't have to look it up.

Here's a link to the equipement in question.

Thanks Ken but this doesn't apply to this install.

From the planning guide:

'4. Feeder protection (by others in external equipment) for rectifier AC input and bypass AC input is recommended to be provided by separate overcurrent protection devices.'

The single line shows an internal OCPD, the external disconnect is for the branch feeder OCPD, not OCP for the UPS and need not be in sight of the UPS.

Thanks Laszlo, where did you find that. I downloaded the installation manual but couldn't view it.

BTW, are you and Charlie having some sort of smallest font contest?
