I've used their wire nuts before and the only thing I can say is that their tan wire nuts don't grab smaller wires like the Ideal's do. Other than that I don't see a problem. Do you really think they are of lesser quality than the junk that comes free with home depot light fixtures (the ones without a metallic coil inside of the wire nut). As far as buying out of spec breakers or smokes no of course I wouldn't bother. Some of their stuff I wouldn't buy, and I don't use T&B's and if I did have to replace one I have ones from old services.
The problem that I've noticed in my area is that guys are beating us out on pricing because they are cut throat. They buy all this stuff and honestly the GC's and certainly the homeowners don't care about anything other than the bottom line. I don't know what their profit is either but it can't be much because I find out sometimes what their price was. Their work is messy and few people seem to care as long as it passes inspection. In my opinion for what they will put in their pocket at the end of the job I'd rather stay home and watch TV instead of contributing to this game and letting people think that electricians prices are negotiable and way over inflated. It's actually starting to scare me I went into this line of work because I didn't think I'd see this happening for a long time, or at least until I retire.

Fine. Use a jar of Sun Star's wirenuts, then you'll gladly pay 50 bucks a jar for good wirenuts.

last time I looked at the invoice, a jar [750] of 3M tan/reds were $89 from my local supply house.
