I bet most of the house there are on slab. I have seen them in crawl spaces mostly but a few in closets and in the attic as well. I avoid the attics and usually install them just inside the entrance to the crawl spaceI have never seen the doorbell transformer NOT in the attic.

Do you mount the transformer inside the box? And if so does that put the 120v and the 12v inside the same box? Or do you mount the transformer to the outside of the box with the primary leads inside the box (1/2" ko installation?) And if so can you change the transformer out once the wall is finished? Or am I not understanding your method at all, and if so would like to know what it is.Mounted many in a 2 gang deep steel box and then placed the chime over the box. Fast, easy and out of site

You would need 600 volt wire on secondary. Inspector suggested the idea and as long as no other wires in box he never pushed the voltage issue. Put 4 square cover over box.

I'd put it in the attic before I did that.
I always put mine on the box I install for the furnace disconnect switch. That will always be accessible and visible.

I'm not gonna lose sleep over the amp draw of a doorbell transformer.
