Spade bits will not stay as sharp very long if used for drill many holes as a good auger or ship bit will, but these also require more power from a drill which will run down a cordless battery faster not producing as many holes per charge. So a spade/flat bit would be the best choice for a cordless and a auger will be the best choice for many holes but use it in a electric drill. A plumber's bit ( can't think of the correct name) are very good for both.
