EV charging; ok to use range outlet ?

A normal 50a residential range receptacle, no. A heavy-duty 50a charger receptacle, yes.

Look for recent discussions with pictures showing the difference in this forum.
 
Also note none of the heavy duty EV receptacle I have seen are listed for aluminum wire.

Agreed. Otherwise, almost every house in America would not qualify.

As long as the ampacity requirements are met, it's none of their business.
 
Tesla Wall Chargers should not be connected to an outlet. The Travel charger can be connected to a NEMA 14-50, copper conductors only, ground at the top. My travel charger cheat sheet is attached. I prefer to install the wall charger with 4AWG Copper and a 60A breaker. This allows for 48A charge if the service / panel can support it.1732839566244.png
 
The manufacturer instructions include the statement no GFCI required.
Seems as if you install that reptacle either in the garage or on the exterior, GFCI will be required if you are on the 2020 or 2023 NEC. 625.54, 210.8A(2)(3), 210.8(B)(4)(8).

I priced it out on a 60' run by the time I buy the insulated AL to CU multi port tap connectors, the chair lugs for the existing panel neutral bar and a jbox large enough to house the taps, a run of copper NM cable is more cost effective, also for me these are going into existing residential panels that can be quite stuffed so the smaller the wire the better.

That’s fine. The point of my comment was only to point out that aluminum wire is not prohibited from the entire circuit. At the end of the day, each installation must be evaluated to determine the best, most economical wiring method.
