Yeah, but look how wide it is.

"But, look how well the suit fits."

Two (pick your favorite substance)'ed guys were walking along a train track.

#1: "I wish we'd get to the bottom of these stairs already!"

#2: "Yeah, but it's the low handrails that are bugging me!"

I can see you point to a T lamp, but calling 48" the lamp width is silly.
Okay, lets get some things straight right now!

1. Of course, it's silly! This is us.

2. If you look at the end of an F32T8, it's 1" tall, 1" wide, and 48" deep.

3. If you look at one broadside, it's 1" tall, 1" deep, and 48" wide.

So, there!

And if you order one from the supply house it's 48" long.

See what your posting for post count can lead to Larry?

Didn't mean to hijack this thread with a silly question. Does anyone have anything better for Tom? :)

How about ' What is Ohms law, or ask them to draw the Ohms law formula wheel. '

I feel every electrician should try to memorize those basic formulas.

What is a multi wire branch circuit? What is the one of the potential dangers of sharing a neutral.

Ask them have they had any 'control questions'. Have them draw a basic start stop control diagram.

Will there be conduit bending on the job?? ask basic conduit bening questions, whats the take up for 1/2 bender for a ninety

Ok, some of my questions are little weak I admit, but its a start. ;)

Charlie, good answer. It should be asked as follows:
What is the ampacity of 12 THHW and what is the allowed overcurrent protection?
These test questions are for an oral interview. The same exact questions get asked to all applicants.
Its not an open book exam. We give them the questions shortly before the interview.

Be sure to specify if its a motor or not. :) remember that #12 wire can have a larger breaker than 20 amp ahead of it. ;)

Ask them the inch cubic multiplier's for #10, or #8, or #6, for box fill?

Ask them either given a 120V or a 277V how many circuits can be in a multigang
switch box before a divider is required?

Ask them if two different voltages with the same insulation value can be in the
same conduit (or any way you want to word it)

-------

Ask them how do you convert in lbs to ft lbs on a torque wrench?

Ask them what equipment is required when working in or around a man-hole?

How about some of the questions that are posted here a lot:

What kind of insulation is in NM?
What is the ampacity of NM?
Can I use NM in commercial?
Can I use AL in commercial sevices?
Do I need 2 ground rods if I have a water pipe electrode?
How many receptacles on a circuit?
Is a box required every 100' ft?
Do you derate THHN from the 75C column or 90C?
Can I use T 310.15 for a resi sub panel?
What are the primary differences between T250.66 and T250.122?
Can I use cords above drop ceilings?
Does the neutral count as a CCC for derating?

I could go on, but I think you can see where I am going.

Tom What type of work is this Journeyman going to be doing..residential, commercial, industrial, institutional? what is the first project you are going to use the journeyman on?
