Flex Cords , male plugs

recently had a person request that the appliance plug(male end) be changed from a 20 amp to a 30 amp so they can plug into their 30 amp receptacle .

Had to tell them that is a Code violation, and that its not allowed. She said all the 'other' equipment in their shop was changed this way in the passed and they just wanted to make everything the same.
YIKES!!

I say "Even though the cord plug is going only to that appliance and its likely the load will not increase on that cord/plug , Only the manufacturer can get away with this type of install because of the ocpd can be used in this manner, NEC 2005 400.13. If a electrician alters that, then there can be liability. "

So did I handle this correctly (tried to be as nice as possible). Any other articles you can throw at this??

Did she say this is easy black to black white to white? I think I know this woman. My partner said if it was easy they would have women doing it. He was shortly escorted off the site.

I was just on a job where it seemed every cord end was wrong. They had 125volt 3 wire twist locks on all their 220 volt equipment, single phase 4 wire twist locks on the 3 phase equipment. "But it works fine, whats the problem?" when you have one of your employees come in with a tool wired correctly it will get fried , or they will. Some jobs take more work talking with the people then actually doing the work.

I deal with cord cap issues all the time in resturaunts, I guess its easier to have the cook change a cord cap than to call an electrician to run a 20 amp circuit when they have a perfectly fine 30 or 50 amp circuit available, "heck this little bun toaster will never make that 50 amp breaker trip"
