I would appreciate it if someone could give me an example of FMT. (Flexible Metallic Tubing) Not to be confused with FMC (Flexible Metal Conduit) which I use every day in commercial applications for things such as lighting whips and such

The reason i pose this question is that i hear quite often that 'FLEX' is not allowed in lengths over six feet..
'FLEX' is FMC, and there is no such restriction (6 ft) on FMC, but there Is a 6 ft restriction on the use of FMT.

So I need an example to give when someone tells me that i cannot use 10 feet of aluminum 'FLEX' to fish down a wall....

I have seen FMT used on downlight fixtures that have a piece of FMT from the JB to the actual fixture. I believe that they were labeled as "approved for use in Chicago" where there are different restrictions on air movement in a ceiling plenum.

I would agree that the common term "flex" refers to FMC not FMT. FMT isn't used very often. FMC has no limit on it length when fished down a wall.

Here is standard FMC:

FMC is investigated and tested to UL 1
FMT is investigated and tested to UL 1652

FMC requires the use of set-screw or clamp-clamp type connector.
FMT requires the use of this tyoe of connector:

Always check your product markings. FMC and FMT is marked and will have a label identifying it as such.

Have seen fmt here in texas but have never used it. I have also seen the wrong terminations/clamps used alot around here. If you use the fmt on fmc it splits the rings apart.
