I think you misunderstood me.

The Allen headed set screws used for electrical work are primarily aluminum.

The Allen wrench is made of a hardened steel. "Tool Steel" was just a loose way of describing it.

The point was 'Hard tool, soft hardware requires careful application of torque'. :)

Okay, I understand what you meant now.

The allen head set screws used for electrical work a primarily aluminum??? A aluminum setscrew holding copper wires?? I thought that creates a problem just like AL and Cu wires being joined? Now I'm confused!

there not 100% AL there made of an alloy with aluminum. they dont corrode with contact with copper

6061-T6 aluminum alloy.

The alloy composition of 6061 is:

Silicon minimum 0.4%, maximum 0.8% by weight

Iron no minimum, maximum 0.7%

Copper minimum 0.15%, maximum 0.40%

Manganese no minimum, maximum 0.15%

Magnesium minimum 0.8%, maximum 1.2%

Chromium minimum 0.04%, maximum 0.35%

Zinc no minimum, maximum 0.25%

Titanium no minimum, maximum 0.15%

Other elements no more than 0.05% each, 0.15% total

Remainder Aluminum

The screws and lug bodies often are also tin-plated to make them more compatible with copper.
 
Does anybody at least use torque specs on aluminum wire terminations? Seems like that's one where torque specs should be used, correct?
