Just looking for real world experience with a product I've never used before. I have a 400A fused disconnect that I need to fuse at 175A. Any thoughts on the product below or similar?

As always, thanks for your experience.

To me,"Don't bother me with the facts, my mind is made up" applies. I always hated them and viewed them as potential problems but, like others, I never had any problems with them,

I think that if they're listed for the application then they've been tested so there shouldn't be any problems.

I guess that's why I asked the question. They seem a little "cheesy", but I have no reason to think they would not work. I'm sure we've all looked at some Listed Product and wonder how on Earth it got approved.

Thanks again.

Mersen makes reducer fuses that are a smaller rated fuse in a larger fuse body to avoid using the separate fuse reducers. I don't know if other manufacturers make something similar or how much they cost.

Interesting stuff. I know some of you are Listing Junkies (a good thing). I went to the Mersen website (https://us.mersen.com/en/products?search_text=fuse+reducer) and it said that the other brands of fuse adapters are only listed for temporary use. Thoughts?

Thanks again.

Define temporary.
I have used them and never gotten a call back. Yes, maybe they called someone else.
I've seen them on other's jobs.

Mersen is the only place I can find saying this, and maybe its all sales bs, but found this:

Edit: Since Mersen is the only company that makes reducer fuses, it kinda seems like maybe they are the only ones that think they are necessary. But if I had a critical application, or I was concerned about the reducers, I would probably use the mersen product.

I remember pricing them out once, I think it was to go from 400 down to 200 and they were so expensive it was cheaper to replace the disconnect. Has anyone else found them to be crazy priced?

As I recall, they tried to get that into the code, but it was rejected. I am not finding anything in the UL guide information that suggest the listing is only for temporary use.
