Have an existing situation with a generator in a hospital. I'm looking for a location for a new equipment ATS, can I put it in the same room as the generator.

Critical and Life Safety I realize must be isolated.

Mike, for a hospital there are 3 branches that need to be 2 hour fire segregated. Critical medical, life safety and essential equipment.

You can put an ATS in the same room as an eng gen however the only one you can really have in there is optional standby.

This is not my understanding. Equipment branch per 517 does not require 2 hour rating. In fact, I believe it can be run with normal circuits.

that leaves Life Safety and Critical branch which do need to be isolated and rated. Where in 517 does it state what you are asserting?

that's true but they do speak about isolation of circuits in the NEC.

I'll check my MEC. Thanks for the input.
