Re: gfci

if its 2005 Code, receptacles within 6' of the edge of a sink in the laundry room must be GFCI

Re: gfci

Augie wouldn`t that be be for an accesable receptacle and not a single device like a washer that is dedicated

Re: gfci

210.8(A)(7) does not make that distinction. If a receptacle is in a laundry room, and if it is within 6 feet of the sink (which it probably would be, if the washer dumps water into a laundry tub), then it must be GFCI protected.

Re: gfci

Isn`t that why 05 cycle now includes a laundry tub so that a wet bar isn`t the only place within 6 ft of a sink requiring gfci protection

Re: gfci

Is the washer receptacle a duplex and within 6' of a laundry sink? Is it installed, lets say above the washer and easily subjected to an individual to plug something in?

Re: gfci

In the 2005 NEC, 210.8(A)(7) requires receptacles within 6 ft. of a Laundry sink to be gfci protected. There is no exception given for receptacles that are not accessible or that are dedicated to a particular piece of equipment. If they are within 6 ft, they need gfci protection.

I was responding to a comment from augie47, in which the 2005 version was cited. In 2005, that article says, "Laundry, utility, and wet bar sinks."

Re: gfci

Eprice, if it is a single 20 amp receptacle installed low or is that to be a gfi? Also, the washer motor can trip the gfi. I guess the exceptions 210.8 (A)(7) 05' NEC do not exist. What to do?????

Re: gfci

You have never had a gfi trip on a washing machine, refrige, freezer, sump pump no other use but motor? Let Me know ???????????????????? Or am I and others the only one?????????????????

Install a GFCI receptacle and move on. :)

The fault is probably with the appliance not the GFCI.

The NEC requires GFCIs on many motor loads.

Re: gfci

Most all loads on a construction site are motor loads connected to GFCI's with very few trips in reality.

Re: gfci

If the gfci trips it`s due to a fault and the device did it`s job.Charlie I responded the way I did since there was no cycle listed and was correct in what I posted if 05 yes laundry is part of it but prior cycles allow it.and then disallow it.kind of like grounded switch yokes required not required then required again, someone make up my mind
