Re: gfi

On a serious note 210-8(A)(7) If it is within 6' Also, if it is a kitchen, then all receptacles serving counter tops must be gfci. I guess I don't understand all the "silly" little comments aren't We all try'in to help and educate everyone and anyone when a question arises? Or did I miss something here?

Triphase you did miss something, read the question again.

The question was not where are GFCIs required.

The question was "how far from a sink does a gfi need to be?"

The answer I gave while intended to be humorous was also accurate.

The NEC does not have a regiment that requires an receptacle outlet to be a certain distance away from the sink.

Re: gfi

Iwire, "My stupid" I am having a very bad day I am not thinking clearly and taking out anger on everything and everyone. Maybe I should not post this, but our Building commish just passed away sorry again "Iwire your pretty doggone sharp!" I will not post the rest of the day "feel like a fool"

Re: gfi

Triphase, ditto what Iwire said, my condolences.

There is no reason to not post anymore today though, unless you just do not feel like it.

That is a vauge question..... In a kitchen a bath a laundry a wet bar where. Each has its own requirements. Also what cycle are you in that makes a difference in wet bars.

Re: gfi

Actually, the GFCI is not required to be anywhere near the sink. Don't mean to poke fun but the code only requires that the outlets within a certain distance must be protected by a GFCI circuit. The GFCI itself may be a breaker located in the service panel or any one of the outlets in the circuit as long as it is wired such that the outlets near the sink are protected.

Only far enough to not be submerged in water.
What if the enclosure is listed for submersion?
I would like to see the "In Use" cover for that application. :D
But that would only apply under the 2005. In the 2002, indoor wet locations didn't need an "in-use" cover. :D

Okay, I'm convinced. Please post a picture of a code-compliant submerged receptacle. ;)
