Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

When pricing work in NY, if 5 people were bidding, I would be number 4 - second highest. I would love to be the highest priced, but I am not... yet!

There are some jobs that this price would be even higher- depending on the circumstances. I rarely lose work when I price like this.

Don't forget, we are required by the licensing board to have $2 million for liability and to have $1 million coverage on our trucks. My yearly license fee is $500 to renew. Gas is $1.95/gal, an average permit fee is $75, and beers are $7 ;)

nift21 I would say Ryan's comment was right on the mark. :p

No one was insulting anyone except you.

Luke and Roger are very knowledgeable men who help people quite often.

I am curious as to why you thought the need to put them down?

I guess Nift21 doesn't remember when he said this.

I have an afci breaker that trips because of floresent lights (i think)

I installed a regular breaker, End of story, i hate the afci breakers they seem to trip for no reason.

From what ive heard NY is not requiring them as of the the first of the year.

ive had 2 callbacks for bedrooms that the breakers trip in new homes.

I know im gonna get yelled at for this one, But i have 5 afi breakers i put em in for inspection they back in the truck they go,
maybe he remembers now? :D

Thanks,Roger you beat me to the punch. I just wonder how nift will get away with putting the light fixtures back in the truck :p

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

thats right, i do that, i dont like the breakers, they are no longer required here.

So you bring this up in a future post for what reason??

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

NIFT we are all here to help each other.Would rather have 10 heads than 1 on any job.I myself get shot down often, some of these younger guys bring info that i just never found. The idea here is to learn and be guided to the right answers. Some times ideas on things that we have been doing for 20 years turns out to prove us wrong.I made a few post with fast thinking and they caught me, no big deal. This is not a room to insult each other.
Your license is new and i know you worked hard to get it.Doing things like removing afci is a fast way to lose it.Should someone die from this not only could you lose your license ,you could get criminal charges or jail. Please rethink removing the afci.If they trip there is a cause, fix it.When they change the code and allow you to not use them then fine.
If your inspectors catch you once lieing to them or doing something underhanded like removing afci breakers your in for a rough ride as there respect and trust will be gone forever

And BEER @ $7 ? i need a raise :D

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

Well, name calling aside I think it's interesting to see the wide spread of pricing on this job, given the info provided. I'm closer to Pierre in numbers, came out about 6k off the top off my head. I know I saw some mention of NM cable despite this being a commercial environment... eek?

I can't imagine doing this for 2800 dollars. If it takes at least 40 hours (and it will) and you deduct real material and permit costs, you'll see about 1200 for a weeks work, before you pay your taxes. Not hourly work either, work you are taking full responsibilty for. Here in California, land of the $325,000 median home, I'd have to say no thanks.

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

Just wanted to add that AFCI and GFCI devices do not trip for "no reason". There has to be a reason, invest in a megger, find it and correct it. Changing the breakers out post inspection is tantamount to fraud.. well no, it *is* fraud, and it will eventually catch up to you.

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

The price difference does reflect where we live.In Tampa in some nice gated communities you could get a house from $125,000 to $175,000 easy and that is a well built home 3 bed 2 bath 2000 sq ft.
Our gas price today is around $1.55
So given that and our lower wages $8 to $18
we could probably do ok at $2800 but I'm not leaving the bulbs they go back in truck( just joking)

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

Thanks for all the input guys, Being that i work alone, The way i priced it SHOULD work out.

I calculated again, added inspection and the total price came out to 3050

The owner seemed happy with the price, The builder told me she isnt even going to get any other bids, we will see what happens.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

NIFT your almost always safe if your doing the work yourself. We tend to work harder for ourselfs Your overhead is far lower being you don't pay for things like unemployment, time and a half, workers comp, vacations, and things like tool breakage or loss will be less. And employee theft is not possible.
Keep in mind that your earnings are limited to your 40 or 60 hours a week.

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

Maybe not.She might feel that it is in reason. He should do ok on this job.How bad can this go ? a couple days to rough 1 1/2 to trim if he even needs 2 extra days he will be ok.

Re: Give me numbers off the top of your head, .....

Jim, 8-18 hourly wages? I need to start hiring guys fom your neck of the woods!
