I disagree.

Re: Gounding Screw

Scott, :D

Anyway, I would only agree that there would be a problem if it were a flat head screw.

But wierdly, (cool word  ) the code doesn't address that.

why not use a green screw in these boxes, cuts out a lot of hassling over is it a ground screw or not,
I don't see what's confusing about what the screw on the bottom of the box with an EGC on it is.

If I didn't have a green screw with me I sure wouldn't be coming back tommorow with one when I have this silver one here right now.

Now 5 or 6 people standing around this box with the silver screw for twenty minutes................. :)

That is assuming that there was a problem to begin with. :p

Re: Gounding Screw

For the record, I do use the UL listed green screws ( ;) ) only because they don't protrude so far out of the back of a 4" square. But for old work boxes, octagons and other places where there is clearance behind the box, the clamp screws will do just fine. But when in doubt I bring a can of green paint with me just in case.

You do?

Are they PL listed? (Peter's Laboratories) :D

There are no 'listed' grounding screws on the market.

Re: Gounding Screw

I know, did you see the winking dude? I just had to make light of this ridiculous notion of "UL listed" screws. :D

Just making sure, I did not want any lurkers to think that UL listed grounding screws where available.

See we can muddy up even a multiple choice question. :D

Re: Gounding Screw

My hair color is now grey, but I had a blonde moment. I want to repeat that I was referring to a oval head screw that would provide a better connection not a flat head screw. I still think that a screw designed to hold a box clamp does not have the surface equal to a grounding screw.

The truth is it is designed to hold a clamp not for grounding. The NEC does not prohibit it from being used for used for grounding and I accept it. However the NEC may have had a blonde moment when it was allowed. romeo
