Hello everyone.

I need help with an outlet problem. I'm living in an older home where I think most of the outlets are not grounded so I'm unable to properly use a surge protector. When testing the outlet with a two lead circuit tester the light come on when the two slots are tested. When I leave the red lead in the short slot and test the ground u shape the light only slightly lights up. So is it grounded? When I touch the screw that holds the plastic cover to the outlet the light again, only slightly turns on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is common for older houses to be ungrounded. Unfortunately, we aren't able to help you. So I suggest you contact a qualified & licensed electrician and he can explain it to you.
