.... And the heat index today is going to be 105°F!"

This mornings service call, an AC that quit working during the hottest days on record. Gee.... I wonder what it could be?.....

Auto correct killed the moment yet again!

Did you have another position in the panel to install a good breaker? Something tells me the buss section where that one was located is toast.

Did the unit come back on and work or did that bad breaker cause more problems before it burned to death?

Edit:
Sorry I didn't notice where that breaker was located?

Years ago that part went out on my A/C. When the tech took it apart it was packed solid with fire ants.

Could be worse, when the cap blows you can't bypass it. Have to wait for a new one to come 7 days latter on the hottest day

Nope, this is a disconnect:

No wonder you don't know what your looking at  You've never had HVAC experience.

Oh, silly me! I woke up this morning thinking I was an electrician.......

I guess installing a new electrical disconnect, while solving the HO's problem and getting her AC back on, was the wrong thing to do.... :p

I’ve always been able get a cap locally same day. Had to replace two of them last year, one on my daughter’s central AC and one on the heat pump for my pool.

I've never been able to figure it out, but AC units seem to eat caps like a bag of Cheetos.
