Help!!!

My husband is at the Thomas Prometric testing center for his electrical contractor license in WV. There is a question that no one can find in all the books and all are not getting the answer right. He has been an electrician for 20 years and has researched this to no avail. We've asked so many people that we thought would know. No one does. So, he is staying again tonight to retake test tomorrow and I'm hoping someone in this forum will know the answer!! Here goes:

What is the color of the grounded conducter for MI cable?

No options on voltage, no anything else except for what I wrote. HELP!!

No specific color is specified. It must be "identified at the time of installation by a distinctive marking at its terminations." Reference: Article 200.6(A)(1). I wish him better fortune on his next try.

The best advice when taking any test is to never worry about that one question that has everyone stumped ( all questions count the same ). Always worry about getting the other 99 out of a 100 right, you can always look up the answer to that one at a later date. :)
 
The grounded conductor shall be continuous white or gray or have three white stripes.

The grounded conductor of a mineral-insulated (MI) metal sheathed cable shall be identified at the time of installation by distinctive marking at its terminations. White or gray tape or paint.

Though if it's a trick question the obvious answer would be black.

Thank you for your time. He started doubting all that he knows and was trying to figure out what questions he got wrong. With your help he now knows that it wasn't that question (he wasn't able to find it anywhere to double check and it was driving him crazy!) now that he knows he got that answer right, back to figuring out what he had gotten wrong!

That's what the test is designed to make him do, start second-guessing. Tell him to go with his gut instinct. And keep in mind their test questions are not real-world problems or issues half the time.

If you have to mark the grounded conductor at the end as per 200.6(A)(1) then the conductor in the cable must be black.

So it's black until you make it white. You know, like in... What's the color of George Washingtons white horse?

???.....if the MI cable is black, you have more problems on your hands than re-identifying the grounded conductor.
 
On time limited questions you budget your time.On one like this takes your best guest and spend time on another you might get correct.Test are designed to fail over 90 % so just dont worry about it.Almost nobody passes first time,Night before test ,DO NOT STUDY,get plenty of sleep.You cant possably learn enough in that last few hours to make up for being tired.When i took masters my doctor told me to take lots of vitamins and eat all the hershey bars i could.Keep coffee to the min
 
this is off topic, but when did WV start licensing electricians ?

(I thought shooting bears was the only think you needed a license for ?)

Do you really want me to answer that? My husband is from Northern Va and has been an electrician for 20yrs, his experience includes lead/foreman, field supervisor, pm, head estimator and the head of operations. We've now started our own business which will include the panhandle of WV and Virgnia.

By the way, the license also includes not only shooting bears but Maryland electricians
