Installing 1500 watt field lighting. Each pole (circuit) will consist of 4 lamps, each lamp ballast is 1700 va, with 240 volts applied.

The circuit load works out to 28.33 amps, (1700 x 4 /240). With the 125% factored in being 35.4 amps.

May be splitting hairs with the question, but does this get by with a 35 amp breaker or can it be a 40 amp?

Does anyoune make a HID breaker in a 35, (breaker will be "switch). Seen only 30 and 40 on SqD website.

I plan on stringing #6 Al to satisfy the voltage drop.

Thanks

since you are using #6 Al, and the cost of the two breakers being equal,
why take a chance on nuisance tripping....

i have few question to ask you here how many lumiare post you are planning to set up ? and is the electrical suppy is single phase ??

the reason why i ask you because of safety factor in case if lumiaire do fail for some reason it should not affect the other lumaires as well and do the lumiaires do have it own fuse ?? [ it will be nice if have it ]

just a thought so you can review it propely

Merci, Marc

Marc,
The system is single phase.

Only going to provide protection to the branch circuits themselves. There are 4 branch circuits, each consisting of 4 lights on a pole.

I agree with you that fusing each ballast is ideal, but no games/events will be canceled should an entire pole black out. It is only for "walk on" tennis and basketball players. Utility crew will always have the opportunity to make any repairs the very next day too.
