What about a claim by a HI that the service cable (not the triplex drop) on a house that's been humming happily away for over 30 years suddenly must be relocated to be more than three feet from a window?


Larry I don't think of that as bogus, it's a situation where the inspector is not familiar with code and needs a second opinion. They state very openly that they are not code experts and only point out things of concern.

I have had electrical inspectors for the city and county make mistakes as far a code goes. They were correct to point this out and you are corrected to familiarize them with the code section allowing this. This is the same action that you would take with the electrical inspector.

When I said that I had never seen a completely bogus report I don't mean that every item they list will be correct but I always find at least one item that really needs attention. It may be as small as a missing grounds but it really will be missing. Other times it may be just a few box covers missing but they are ligitimate concerns.

Even if you hire an electrical engineer (PE) to inspect a house you are still going to get some differences of opinions and there will be mistakes made.
