Here in Los Angeles, which is basically the pinnacle of civilization, they sell you a permit and don't care who does the work. All a permit is, is a prepaid reservation for a visit from a City Inspector.

This would not be a big deal to me.

So long as such things only happen in Los Angeles and New York Ciy ( The other pinnacle of civilization ) it won't bother me much either.

But when in Georgia a man is expected to drink Bourbon Whiskey, carry a gun, marry a woman and keep his hands off another man's work. ;)

It's *their* house to do as they please. They out foxed the electrician and saved money by doing their own electrical work.

So let's say they pull all your 14-, 12-, 10- and 8-AWG NM, as well as your 2/0 copper in the service and take it down to the recycle center for cash. Then, they rewire their house with zip cord.

You're OK with that?

I don't have to live there. Maybe they have a herd of cattle living in the kitchen. Maybe they sell all their copper plumbing and drink only beer. Maybe they sell their shingles and live under a blue tarp.

I really don't care what other people do in the privacy of their homes.

I was stationed in Georgia while in the Army. From what I saw, a man is expected to drink moonshine, carry a walking stick, marry his cousin and keep his hands off of ANY work!

So when their house burns down, you think you're off the hook?

I'm not responsible for what people do to my wiring after I leave. Is Ford responsible if I relocate the drivers seat and controls to the bed, facing backwards and I crash into a freight train?

I'm not on the hook in any event. My insurance company is. That's why I pay them, to assume those risks for me.

Besides, if you read this forum, you'd believe that every other house in America is on fire. Fires don't happen as often as many of you make out. Yeah, when I'm selling a job, I scare the daylights out of my customer with stories of fire and painful skin graft surgeries, but we all know it's extremely rare.

You work under your license and the HO decides to add to the design? **** that. Contract disregarded, cut the bill and walk away! I didn't read the whole thread, but should I have to??????
See ya'!!!! Didn't I make that clear in the 1st place?
Over and outta here. You did your part, now pay up. Document it, and off to the next job you go!
Utter BS. Why did you call me in the first place? Let the HO tell the insurance agent they did the work!

That would be in the south GA part.
North of Macon is civilized like growler stated!

Ok, so i emailed the director of the county yesterday, they called me a few minutes ago and said i have to send in a letter on company letter head stating what happened and that i am releasing (sp) liability and they will cancel the permit, and they will also put a hold on it until i send it in. YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i will be expecting a call from a upset homeowner soon, maybe justice is served

The only difference it is much harder to catch an unqualified, unlicensed person doing illegal (depending on the jurisdiction), unpermitted, and uninspected work in an existing building, than a new one with a record of who installed what and inspectors coming in and out.

That is quite an impressive string of adjectives you have there. Next time I'm modifying my own house instead of calling in an electrician, I'll remember that I'm unqualified, unlicensed, illegal, unpermitted, and uninspected. I'm sure it will make me smile while I continue to do it.

It may be perfectly legal in your jurisdiction. In this jurisdiction, it is not. It depends on the local laws.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
